UNIQUE WINES FROM PRAGUE CASTLE

The Prague Vineyard will captivate you with its unique atmosphere and the most beautiful views of the panorama of Malá Strana’s towers, chimneys and roofs. Breathe in the history linked with the very roots of Czech statehood. Enjoy unforgettable romantic moments amidst the oldest Czech vineyard, with a history dating back more than a thousand years.

ST. Wenceslas VINEYARD

The vineyard at Villa Richter is the oldest vineyard established within the territory of the Czech Kingdom. It was chosen by Saint Wenceslas, who personally cared for the vines with his own hands. Here are a few of the “mosts” of the St. Wenceslas Vineyard:

Oldest – With over 1100 years of history, this vineyard is not only the oldest in Prague but also in the Czech lands.

Smallest – Covering only 0.2 hectares, this vineyard is the smallest in Prague.

The most beautiful – With its stunning views of historic Prague, this vineyard is an integral part of the magnificent panorama of Prague Castle.

THE BEST WINES

Our wines from St. Wenceslas Vineyard are regularly ranked among the best wines in the Czech Republic.

Riesling and Pinot Noir – two royal grape varieties
The Riesling and Pinot Noir varieties grown in this vineyard are among the most noble grape varieties in the world. A pergola divides the vineyard into two halves. Riesling is grown on the lower part of the vineyard and Pinot Noir above it. The subsoil of the vineyard is made up of crumbly shale. The historical headland is reminiscent of the way the vines were grown in the past. The vineyard is farmed entirely by hand with minimal use of chemicals. Both wines are trained in wooden barrels for 12-14 months and then aged for a minimum of 1 year in a bottle. Only then are they offered for consumption.

The exceptional location of the vineyard
The exceptionally well-exposed southern slope near Prague Castle was chosen for the cultivation of vines more than 1100 years ago by the patron saint of the Czech lands, Prince St. Wenceslas himself.

Limited Quantity
Due to the small quantity of wine produced, it can be tasted or purchased exclusively in the vineyard area of Villa Richter.
